First international gas congress to take place in Turkmenistan

The first international gas congress will take place in Ashgabat on 14-15 April 2010, the organizers of the event Turkmengaz and British Summit Trade Events reported.

Turkmenistan claims for the role of one of the key players in the energy market in the Caspian region. Every year the country produces about 70-80 billion cubic meters of gas, significant part of which was exported to Russia and Iran for a long time. This year a route will be opened to China.

Today, Turkmenistan ranks fourth in the world for gas reserves. According to the data provided by the State Concern Turkmengeologia, in Turkmenistan were opened 38 oil, 82 gas-condensate fields, and 153 gas fields, including 142 onshore and 11 offshore.

In 2006, a super-giant oil and gas field South Yoloten-Osman was opened, which is located in Mary province. According to data provided by Gaffney, Cline & Associates, the initial natural gas reserves amount to six trillion cubic meters, and oil - 300 million tons.
