Iran intends to complete the drilling of its first exploration well in Caspian Sea by March 2012, Iranian National Iranian Oil Company Exploration Director Mahmoud Mohaddes was quoted as saying by the mojnews website.
He said Iran has made investments totaling more than $500 million in the oil platform construction on the Caspian Sea.
"Some drilling operations have been complete," he said. "We plan to put the first well into operation by March 2012."
Iran began drilling the first well on the Amir Kabir Platform in the Caspian Sea in mid-February. It is planned to drill three exploration wells at the platform in the first stage.
