The Kazakh government controls the proportional presence of foreign companies in the country's oil and gas sector, Oil and Gas Minister Sauat Mynbayev said at a press conference in Astana.
"We monitor the participation of investors in our oil and gas market," Mynbayev said.
Mynbayev said that the Chinese companies' share in the country's oil and gas sector is about 24 percent.
"It is clear that Chinese companies are active in the Kazakh oil and gas market, but we are watching the situation for reasons of national security," he added.
The foreign companies' presence in Kazakhstan is fairly proportional.
"So, we do not see the urgency of the problem," said Mynbayev.
Recently, Kazakh media reported that the Chinese companies are expanding in the oil and gas sector in Kazakhstan. Several non-governmental organizations sent a letter to the head of state, expressing their concerns and warned that the government should heed such growth.
