Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct. 30 / Trend A. Taghiyeva /
Turkey will resume electricity supplies to Syria in the coming days, ceased at the beginning of the month at the initiative of Damascus, a source at the Turkish State Company for Electricity Trade told Trend on Tuesday.
"The Turkish private sector, exporting electricity to Syria, has agreed with Damascus to resume supplies," a source said. "Aksa company, exporting electricity to Syria, said earlier that export will resume in the coming days."
Political processes taking place between Syria and Turkey can not affect the cooperation between the Turkish private sector and Damascus," the source said.
A source said that the export will be made in the earlier agreed volumes in the future. If the Syrian side urges to increase supply, Turkey will be able to increase exports.
Turkey monthly supplies 232.2 million kilowatt / hours of electricity to Syria. These volumes ensure about 20 percent of Syria's electricity needs.
The relations between Turkey and Syria worsened after the incident at the border on October 3, when the artillery shells were directed from the neighboring territory to Turkish area Akchakale. Five people were killed and 11 injured. In response to the incident the Turkish Parliament provided the government with a one-year mandate for cross-border military operations on October 4, as well as towards Syria.
