This year, the volume of gas in underground gas storage facilities of Azerbaijan will exceed the previous season of injection, head of State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) Rovnag Abdullayev told journalists.

He noted that if the volume of gas in underground facilities amounted to 3.25 billion cubic meters last year then this figure will be by 100 million cubic meters more this year.

Azerbaijan has two underground storage facilities - Garadagh and Kalmaz.

Abdullayev said, SOCAR plans to increase storage capacity of the active volume of gas in both storage facilities to 4.5-5 billion cubic meters.

In particular, the process of increasing the active volumes in Garadagh gas storage facility is completed and now reached 1.3 billion cubic meters (with a total storage volume of 2.7 billion cubic meters). Works to increase the storage capacity of active gas in the Garadag gas storage will continue, and will increase to three billion cubic meters. All the drilling of additional wells and the Renovation of infrastructure will be completed within 2013, so that to achieve the objectives in 2014.
