BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 30. The STAR oil refinery, operated by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in Türkiye, reported a decrease in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) production in May 2024, Trend reports with reference to Türkiye's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK).

The refinery produced 12,646 tons of LPG, down from 15,114 tons in the same month of 2023, representing a 16.3 percent year-on-year decline.

This decrease in LPG production coincides with a reduction in crude oil supplies to the refinery. In May 2024, the STAR refinery received 973,110 tons of crude oil, a 4.5 percent drop from the 1.018 million tons supplied in May 2023.

The STAR refinery, which began operations in October 2018, was built with an investment of $6.3 billion, of which $3.3 billion was financed through loans. The refinery has an annual refining capacity of approximately 10 million tons and can process 214,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
