Turkmenistan sees rise in cashless transactions through digital payment system

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, July 24. The total value of cashless transactions in Turkmenistan under the 'Digital Commerce' system from January through May 2024 was 570.5 million Turkmen manat, or $162.8 million, Trend reports.

According to the Central Bank of Turkmenistan, these amounts represent a 35 percent increase compared to the first five months of 2023, when they were 416.9 million Turkmen manat, or $119 million.

During the specified period, the total value of transactions through the 'Mobile Banking' system reached 7.2 million Turkmen manat ($2 million), while the 'Internet Bank' system saw nearly 940,800 Turkmen manat ($268,500) in transactions.

Furthermore, from January through May of this year, the total cashless turnover through the 'Halkbank terminal' system amounted to over 32.9 million Turkmen manat ($9.4 million), more than doubling the amount from the same period last year, which was 12.1 million Turkmen manat ($3.4 million).

Data from the Central Bank of Turkmenistan show that on July 24, 2024, the official exchange rate of the Turkmen manat against the US dollar was set at 3.5 manats per USD.
