The Director-General of Ports and Maritime Organization of Gilan Province announced an increase of about 50 percent in the container operations of the province's ports in the first nine months of the current Iranian year (started on March 20) compared to the same time last year.
"Since the beginning of the current Iranian year (started on March 20), 5,620 containers have been transported through the Gilan`s ports, of which Anzali port`s share was 4,150, Astara port 185 and Caspian port 1,288 containers,” the Director-General of Ports and Maritime Organization of Gilan Province, Hamidreza Abaei said, Trend reports citing IRNA.
He pointed out that 60 percent of the container operations in Gilan province were from Anzali port, 12 percent from Astara port, and about 27 percent from Caspian port.
“For the optimal use of Astara land border, the use of Roll-on/roll-off (RORO or ro-ro) ships is on the agenda. In the coming days, we will see the arrival of the Roll-on/roll-off (RORO or ro-ro) ships in Anzali port, with the capacity of carrying about 54 containers of 40-foot,” he noted.
He stated that in the last 9 months, 1,550,000 tons of unloading and loading have been done by the maritime transport fleet of Gilan province.
The port official said 57 percent of the loaded and unloaded items were allocated to grain, 20 percent to wooden boards, 5 percent to building construction goods, and 18 percent to oil.
Abaei stated that the maritime performance of Gilan ports has increased by 50 percent.
