ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 26. The completion of all terminals of the Sarzha multifunctional sea terminal (MST) in the port of Kuryk in Kazakhstan's Mangistau region by 2030 will increase the throughput capacity of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR, or Middle Corridor) by 10 million tons per year, said General Director of SEMURG INVEST LLP Nurzhan Marabayev at a meeting of the operational working group on the development of cross-border hubs in the government, Trend reports.
As was noted at the meeting, new terminal facilities of the port of Kuryk are being put into operation.
The first freight consignment arrived at the Sarzha MST's general cargo terminal in Kuryk at the end of September 2023. It is expected to deploy a ship filled with metal weighing 4,500 tons by the end of October.
SEMURG INVEST has been working on the Sarzha MST construction project in Kuryk's port for numerous years. Several terminals (grain, general and liquid cargo, universal) and a transport and logistics complex will be created as part of the project.
The Middle Corridor is a transportation and commerce route that connects Asia and Europe, going through numerous regional countries.
It is an alternative route to the traditional Northern Corridor and Southern Corridor.
The route starts in China and crosses Central Asian countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. It then passes through the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye before reaching Europe.
The Middle Corridor offers a land route that connects the eastern parts of Asia, including China, with Europe, bypassing the longer maritime routes.
