ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 19. The volume of electricity production by renewable energy sources amounted to 1.8 billion kWh from January through March 2024, Trend reports, citing the EnergyProm monitoring agency.
Thus, the renewable energy sources really turned up the heat, increasing electricity production by a whopping 18.9 percent compared to the same period in 2023.
Simultaneously, 5.4 percent of the overall generation volume's power came from renewable energy plants, up from 4.8 percent the previous year.
In addition, the majority of electricity generation traditionally came from wind power plants: 1.3 billion kWh, an annual increase of 25.2 percent. Next are solar power plants (330.7 million kWh), small hydroelectric power plants (170.6 million kWh) and bioelectric power plants (150,000 kWh of electricity).
Meanwhile, Kazakhstan's renewable energy installations were on fire, generating a whopping 6.675 billion kWh of electricity by the end of 2023.This volume accounts for 5.92 percent of total electrical energy production in 2023.
At present, the nation maintains 147 renewable energy facilities (over 100 kW) with an installed capacity of 2,903.54 MW. These facilities include 59 wind power plants with a capacity of 1,409.55 MW, 46 solar power plant facilities with a capacity of 1,222.61 MW, 39 hydroelectric power plants with a capacity of 269.605 MW, and three biogas power plant facilities with a capacity of 1.77 MW.
