ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 20. Kazakhstan and Tajikistan have agreed to work on signing a roadmap to increase trade turnover between the countries for 2025–2027, Trend reports.
A corresponding agreement was reached during the 18th meeting of the Intergovernmental Kazakh-Tajikistan Commission on Economic Cooperation, chaired by the First Deputy Prime Ministers of Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, Roman Sklyar and Hokim Kholiqzoda, in Dushanbe.
According to plans, the roadmap will be signed during the upcoming visit of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to Tajikistan.
The meeting also discussed the economic situations in both countries, the current state, and prospects for the development of trade and economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. The parties considered issues of interaction in the fields of energy, industry, transport, agriculture, education and science, digitalization, and tourism.
In addition, the meeting participants paid special attention to specific measures to increase mutually beneficial cooperation, create joint ventures, and develop a comprehensive mechanism for water and energy cooperation to ensure water, energy, and food security in Central Asia.
Roman Sklyar noted that interaction between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan is rapidly developing in the spirit of partnership and good neighborliness, having great prospects for the development of bilateral economic cooperation.
According to Sklyar, the decisions made will give additional impetus to the development of bilateral relations in all areas of Kazakh-Tajik cooperation and strengthen ties between the countries.
Following the meeting, a protocol on the implementation of the agreements reached was signed.
To note, the volume of trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan amounted to $1.13 billion in 2023. Trade is dominated by Kazakh exports to Tajikistan, which totaled $860 million, while imports from Tajikistan amounted to $271 million.
