ASTANA, Kazakhstan, August 13. Kazakhstan's manufacturing industry has shown growth of 5.1 percent in the first half of 2024, said Minister of Industry and Construction Kanat Sharlapaev during a government meeting, Trend reports.
"In the first half of 2024, the manufacturing industry grew by 5.1 percent. Positive dynamics are observed in ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, chemical, engineering industries, and furniture production. By the end of the year, it is planned to ensure growth in the main manufacturing sectors. A key mechanism to achieve this goal is to support domestic production. To achieve this, several legislative changes were adopted," he said.
As the minister noted, the list of local goods prioritized in government procurement has been expanded.
"The mechanism for concluding offtake contracts has been developed. During the construction of facilities at the expense of the state budget, control was introduced on the use of goods produced in Kazakhstan. In the procurement of subsoil users of solid minerals, a measure has been introduced to conclude contracts for the supply of domestic goods; in the procurement of subsoil users of hydrocarbons and uranium, requirements for the purchase of domestic goods have been established," Sharlapaev noted.
According to the minister, for subjects of natural monopolies, priority purchase of local goods has been established by reducing the price of the competitive bid by 10 percent.
Meanwhile, the volume of industrial production in Kazakhstan amounted to 46.4 trillion tenge (about $102.5 billion) from January through December 2023. Compared to 2022, production increased by 4.3 percent.
