"Current Kyrgyz citizens must pass on culture and traditions of the people to the next generation," Roza Otunbayeva, the president for transitional period declared today at the military parade in honor of the 20th anniversary of independence of the republic at Ala-Too Square in the capital, 24.kg news agency reported.

According to her, exactly 20 years ago on August 31, 1991 an independent Kyrgyzstan appeared on the political world map. "At that time we chose freedom and independence and confirmed the readiness to preserve culture and traditions of the people. The way of independence of Kyrgyzstan was very difficult. Despite this our multinational people have overcome all miseries. We have experienced that without equality the development and peace are impossible in the society. So we came to a parliamentary form of government. Now, as the next test, we expect the presidential elections in autumn," said Roza Otunbayeva.

She said that army, soldiers, officers provided the independence of the state. "We must thank our military men for firmness, moral self-restraint and professionalism. We are citizens of one country. Our homeland is here. And we must not be divided by language and nationality. We all have to work hard for the country's prosperity," added Roza Otunbayeva.
