Kyrgyzstan ranks among top 5 remittance destinations for Kazakhstan

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, July 30. Kazakhstan sent 6,140 transactions totaling 2.6 billion tenge ($5.472 million) to Kyrgyzstan through the international money transfer system in June 2024, Trend reports.

According to Kazakhstan's National Bank, Kyrgyzstan accounted for 3.1 percent of the total number of transactions and 3.6 percent of the total value sent abroad.

In June 2024, Kazakhstan sent 200,350 transactions abroad via the international money transfer system, amounting to 73 billion tenge ($153.662 million). The number of transactions declined by 7.2 percent, and the total value dropped by 1.1 percent compared to May 2024.

The leading destinations for Kazakh money transfers in June 2024 were Uzbekistan with 28.7 billion tenge ($58.307 million), or 39.3 percent of the total; Russia with 19.6 billion tenge ($41.257 million), or 26.9 percent; Türkiye with 10.6 billion tenge ($22.312 million), or 14.5 percent; and Georgia with 4.9 billion tenge ($10.314 million), or 6.7 percent. Kyrgyzstan rounded out the top five destinations.

The majority of transfers sent via the international money transfer system were conducted in US dollars, accounting for 34.4 percent of the total number of transactions and 58.6 percent of the total value. Transfers in Kazakh tenge made up 54.3 percent and 32.4 percent, respectively.
