Kyrgyzstan records increase in agricultural production y-o-y

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, September 11. Kyrgyzstan produced agricultural goods worth 222.8 billion soms ($2.7 billion) from January through August 2024.

Data obtained by Trend from the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan shows a 7.3 percent increase in agricultural output compared to the same period last year.

This increase is driven by gains in wheat production (up 57.1 percent), barley (up 1.8 times), rice (up 6.7 percent), potatoes (up 12.7 percent), fruits and berries (up 16.1 percent), melons and gourds (up 17 percent), as well as a 2.5 percent increase in livestock products. Within livestock, egg production rose by 10.4 percent, milk production by 2.5 percent, and meat production by 2.1 percent.

Agriculture's contribution to the country's GDP was 8.8 percent. Kyrgyzstan's GDP reached 798 billion soms ($9.4 billion) from January through August 2024, which is a 6.6 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023.
