BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 16. The loan portfolio of banks in Kyrgyzstan totaled 295 billion soms ($3.4 billion) as of August 31, 2024, which is a 14.4 percent increase since the beginning of the year, Trend reports.
The National Bank of Kyrgyzstan reported the following breakdown of loans:
- Industrial loans: 12.8 billion soms ($149.7 million) - a decrease of 4.7 percent since the beginning of 2024;
- Agricultural loans: 47 billion soms ($549.7 million) - an increase of 11.5 percent;
- Trade loans: 77.6 billion soms ($907.6 million)- an increase of 4.8 percent;
- Construction loans: 13.4 billion soms ($156.7 million) - an increase of 13.2 percent;
- Mortgage loans: 34.4 billion soms ($402.3 million)- an increase of 14.5 percent;
- Consumer loans: 77.2 billion soms ($902.9 million) - an increase of 38.3 percent;
- Other loans: 32.5 billion soms ($380.1 million) - an increase of 6.8 percent.
In the overall credit portfolio of the banking system, classified loans made up 12.1 percent, or 35.6 billion soms ($416.3 million) as of August 31, 2024, compared to 9.2 percent at the end of 2023. The volume of overdue loans stood at 7.2 billion soms ($84.2 million), or 2.4 percent of the total credit portfolio, which represents an increase of 11.7 percent since the beginning of the year.
As of the reporting date, there were 21 commercial banks and 305 branches of commercial banks operating in Kyrgyzstan. Five of these banks offered services in accordance with Islamic banking and finance principles, in both national and/or foreign currencies.
