BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 24. The Czech Republic is interested in further development of comprehensive economic cooperation with Turkmenistan, a source in the Communications Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic told Trend.

"Czechia is interested in further developing trade exchange or cooperation in many sectors, including transportation or energy. Turkmenistan can play a significant role in diversifying our supply chains and thus decreasing our undesirable dependencies," the source said.

A source in the ministry noted that Turkmenistan and the Czech Republic are currently strengthening dialogue and creating new platforms for interaction between the private sectors of both countries.

"Czechia and Turkmenistan have been taking steps to broaden and intensify dialogue and create new platforms for communication, including between corporate sectors of our countries. Czech companies should participate in trade fairs in Turkmenistan, and vice versa," the source added.

At the same time, it was noted that the potential for cooperation between both the Czech Republic and the entire EU was not fully exploited.

"Central Asia is for Czechia, as well as for the whole European Union, a region of strategic importance. Turkmenistan is a key partner in this regard, while the potential for cooperation has not been fully untapped," the source concluded.

Meanwhile, at the end of June this year, during political consultations between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and the Czech Republic, the parties discussed ways to enhance cooperation in various fields.

The Turkmen side was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov, and the Czech side was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Jiří Kozák.

The parties discussed a number of issues of bilateral cooperation, exchanged views on topical issues on the international agenda, and also reviewed the existing Turkmen-Czech agreements, considering issues of a joint contractual and legal framework.
