ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, August 1. The Transport and Logistics Center of Turkmenistan (TLCT) has successfully organized the first container train from India to Uzbekistan via its territory, Trend reports.
According to TLCT, the train, comprising 20 TEU containers carrying ceramic tiles, is a significant milestone in regional logistics.
This development follows a bilateral meeting between representatives of Uzbekistan Railways and the Turkmenistan Railways Agency held on December 22, 2023, in Istanbul.
The discussions focused on expediting the transit of container trains through Turkmenistan and implementing special tariff rates for transportation. The parties also agreed to designate responsible logistics companies in each country to facilitate shipments along the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-third countries corridor.
To note, on October 21, 2022, the presidents of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan signed a Declaration on Deepening Strategic Partnership. In the transportation sector, the presidents agreed to develop corridors along the East-West and North-South routes, including utilizing the capabilities of the Turkmenbashi port.
