BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 17. Uzbekistan noted progress on the project of the Trans-Afghan railway (Termez - Mazar-i-Sharif - Kabul - Peshawar), Trend reports via the press service of the Uzbek president.
Next year it is planned to create a project office, attract an international consulting company, and hold negotiations with investors. Based on the results, a feasibility study of the project will be prepared.
In February 2021, in Tashkent, the governments of Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan signed a roadmap for the construction of the 765 kilometers of railways.
The new transport corridor should link the European Union, Russia, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and further the states of Southeast Asia. Its transit potential is up to 20 million tons of cargo.
