Number of foreign tourists visiting Uzbekistan rising

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, June 22. The influx of foreign tourists flocking to Uzbekistan hit a whopping figure of 2.8 million from January through May 2024, Trend reports.

According to the data from Uzbekistan’s Statistics Agency, this indicator increased by 248,200 people, or 9.6 percent, compared to the same period last year.

Out of all the countries, Tajikistan took the cake with a whopping 871,500 people who flocked to Uzbekistan for some touristy from January through May 2024. Kyrgyzstan came in second with 857,000 people, followed by Kazakhstan (498,200 people), Russia (289,600 people), and Turkmenistan (53,800 people).

The citizens of Türkiye (42,100 people), India (23,200 people), China (22,800 people), Italy (15,300 people), and South Korea (15,100 people) also visited Uzbekistan during this period.

Meanwhile, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on the approval of the intergovernmental agreement of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member countries on the development of cooperation in the field of tourism.

According to the decree, the responsible body for the implementation of the decree is the Tourism Committee under Uzbekistan's Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change.
