A 2.4-magnitude earthquake struck the Iranian capital of Tehran today, the Iranian Fars news agency reported.
The Tehran Geophysical Institute's Seismological Center recorded the tremors in eastern Tehran at 11:00 p.m. local time.
Earthquakes frequently occur in Iran. A powerful earthquake struck Bam in the southeastern Kerman province in December 2003. The earthquake claimed the lives of 31,000 people.
A 7.7-magnitude earthquake also killed 37,000 people and injured 100,000 in the Gilan and Zanjan provinces.
