Iran's first Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi will visit Afghanistan tomorrow to attend the inauguration ceremony of Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Irna reported.
The Afghan presidential elections took place Aug. 20. A second round of elections was planned for Nov. 7 in connection with violations observed during the first round. However, Karzai's sole opponent, former Afghan Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah refused to participate Nov. 2. He supported his decision by saying the first round of the elections had been non-transparent and called for the government's resignation. After his refusal to further participate in the elections, the Afghan Central Election Commission announced Karzai as president.
Karzai's inauguration ceremony will be held Nov. 19.
