Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki has called for a fundamental change in the structure of the Group of 15 on the sidelines of the G15 summit in Tehran, Press TV reported.

In a meeting with his Senegalese counterpart Madicke Niang on Saturday, Mottaki stressed the need for a revision of the current "structure and aspirations" of the 18-member group of developing nations, a Foreign Ministry statement said.

Mottaki added that the presence of the heads of state in the summit on May 17 would provide a great opportunity for such a review.

Both sides praised Tehran and Dakar's close ties and stressed their determination to continue bilateral and multilateral cooperation, the statement added.

Niang reiterated Senegal's commitment to supporting Iran and said, "In every visit we pay Iran, we feel the brotherhood and the close kinship...We have a special regard for Iran."

The Group of 15 was established at the 9th meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Belgrade in September 1989, with the aim of promoting growth and prosperity in member states.
