Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the true face of the current US administration was unmasked when Barack Obama followed the policies of his predecessors, reported Press TV.
Ahmadinejad called on the US to respect the people's right to freedom and said their interference in regional affairs is the continuation of past US policies.
"Double standards remove the mask of deception from the face of bullying powers," said the Iranian chief executive at a press conference in Tehran on Monday.
He pointed to the Zionist lobby's influence on US politics and said that the best option for the US government is to establish relations with Iran based on justice.
President Ahmadinejad expressed concern that US intervention would steer the popular uprisings of the region in favor of Israel, urging regional countries to carry out reforms and heed to the demands of their people.
He said Israel has been a base for US domination in the Middle East and has been acting negatively because it finds its status in jeopardy following the popular wave of unrest.
Ahmadinejad made the comment on the day that Obama launched his re-election campaign, which he said would be based on his first-term policies.
Obama was elected president in 2008, promising "change." However, he chose to follow in the footsteps of former US President George W. Bush.
In a telephone conversation with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon earlier on Monday, Ahmadinejad asked the world body to prevent the US and European countries from interfering in regional affairs.
"The dual attitude of Western governments towards Bahrain and Libya and their silence on the atrocities of the Zionist regime (Israel) against the innocent Palestinian people indicate their contradictory approaches," he told the UN chief, expressing readiness to help resolve regional problems.
