Member of Iranian Parliament Hossein Sobhani-Nia has said that the Iranian parliament will take reciprocal action if Bahrain closes the Iranian Embassy in Manama, reported Mehr news Agency.
On Wednesday, Bahrain's parliament voted in favor of confiscating the Iranian Embassy building in Manama and converting it into government property.
The vote, however, will be forwarded to the Bahraini cabinet for a final decision.
"If Bahrain implements the plan, Iran will undoubtedly retaliate," Sobhani-Nia, a member of the Majlis National Security Committee, stated in Tehran on Thursday.
Tension has been running high between Iran and its Arab neighbours across the Gulf, with the two sides locked in a war of words since Shiite-led protests against Bahrain's ruling Sunni dynasty broke out in mid-February.
To help the Bahraini government crush the anti-government protests, the neighboring Arab states, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Kuwait have deployed their troops to the tiny Persian Gulf kingdom.
On Tuesday, the Iranian spiritual leader's military adviser Yahya Rahim Safavi accused Saudi Arabian authorities in the suppression of public unrest in Bahrain. In this regard Safavi warned about a possible armed intervention in the affairs of the Saudi kingdom.
It will be an "irreversible" mistake if the Bahraini government gives in to the pressure exerted by the United States and certain other Western countries and closes the Iranian Embassy, Sobhani-Nia said.
He added, "Bahrain and certain other Arab countries must be aware that being influenced by the U.S. and other Western states is of no benefit to them."
Sobhani-Nia also announced that the Majlis National Security Committee is studying the possible closure of the Bahraini Embassy in Tehran.
He also said that Iran must protect the country's interests by giving a proper response to such measures.
