Some 800 tons of cocoons, worth about 68 billion rials (some $5.5 million) have been produced in Iran in the current Iranian calendar year which began on March 20, ISNA quoted the silkworm raising corporation's managing director Farzam Pourramezan as saying.
Each kilogramme of cocoons was purchased from cocoon raisers at 86,000 rials (some $7), and is planned to be purchased at 110,000 rials next year, he noted.
Last year some 600 tons of cocoons were harvested, he said, adding that 300 tons of silk thread has been produced from the cocoons.
