BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 17.Iran consumes an average of 21 bcm of gas per month, dispatcher of the National Gas Company of Iran Saeed Agli said at a conference on "winter fuel supply" in Tehran on October 16, Trend reports.

According to him, 56.5 bcm of gas was supplied for consumption in the country during seven months of last year (from March 21 through October 22). The supply of gas for consumption purposes has decreased by 3.5 bcm this year (from March 20 through October 15, 2024).

Agli added that on average, an average of 700 million cubic meters of gas and 260 million cubic meters of petroleum products are proposed for daily consumption in the country.

The official noted that gas consumption by the country's major plants increased by 2.5 bcm from March 20 through October 15, 2024, compared to the same period last year.

“Currently, more than 70 percent of the country's gas is supplied through the South Pars gas field, which is Iran's joint gas field with Qatar (North Douma in Qatar). This gas field produces more than 400,000 barrels of gas condensate daily, which is sent to the Gulf Star Oil Company to produce gasoline,” he said.

He stated that 21 million cubic meters of gas are delivered daily to the country's refineries for fuel purposes. This figure increases to 24 million cubic meters in winter.

Iran is considered the second-largest gas reserve country in the world, with approximately 34 trillion cubic meters of gas reserves. Currently, 22 gas fields are operating in Iran.

The South Pars gas field (North Douma in Qatar) is a joint Iran-Qatar gas field. It is reported that this field has 51 trillion cubic meters of gas reserves, of which 36 trillion cubic meters can be produced. Iran's share in this field is 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.

To note, Iran's ten refineries currently process crude oil and gas condensate.
