Iran actively working on development of its Genaveh port

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 19. About 30 percent of works on the development of Genaveh port in Bushehr province, located in the south of Iran, have been completed, the director general of the Port and Maritime Administration of Iran's Bushehr Province, Mohammad Shakibinasab said reviewing the work done in Genaveh port, Trend reports.

According to him, 16.4 trillion rials (about $36.8 million) have been allocated for the development of Genaveh Port. The development project of this port is considered one of the important development projects of Bushehr province as well as even the country.

Shakibinesab noted that within the framework of the development works of the port of Genaveh, conditions have already been created for vessels of 2,000 tons displacement to enter the port. In general, the port is planned to be developed within three years.

The official stated that the development works of this port are planned to be carried out at a rapid pace. It is expected that this port will become one of the major ports of Bushehr province in the coming years.

Bushehr, Kharg, Genaveh, Dyer, Asalouyeh, and other ports operate in Iran's Bushehr Province.

Meanwhile, more than 500 ships built by older methods are operating in the port of Genaveh.

To note, the current throughput capacity of Iranian ports is more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking steps to increase the capacity of ports to 500 million tons.
