Value of banknotes, coins in Iran to hit $14B

The volume of banknotes and coins in Iran will reach $14 billion by the end of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 21).

Central Bank of Iran official Behzad Qiyasvand, said that the figure will see a 17.5-percent rise compared to the year before, Iran's IRNA news agency reported on March 11.

The volume of banknotes and coins posessed by the population in Iran was worth $12 billion during the Iranian fiscal year 1391 (March 2012-March 2013), he added.

The US official exchange rate is currently about 28,500 rials in Iran.

The volume of Iran's liquidity exceeded 6.837 quadrillion rials (about $245 billion) in the 12-month period, ending on Dec. 22, 2014.

The figure indicates an increase by 24.1 percent year on year, according to the Central Bank of Iran.

The liquidity growth rate in Iran doubled during President Hassan Rouhani's first year incumbency, according to the statistics of Iran's Central Bank.

The volume of liquidity increased by $34 billion in August 2014 since Rouhani took office in August 2014.

This is while liquidity had grown by around $16 billion between 2005 and 2013.
