Director General of Iran’s Central Insurance Abdonnasser Hemmati has traveled to Europe to seek cooperation with European counterparts.

Having on agenda to visit London and Munich, Hemmati first met with Lloyd’s of London CEO Inga Beale, the Central Insurance reported November 19.

During the meeting, he underlined Lloyd’s presence in the pre-sanctions Iranian aviation industry and said Tehran attaches great importance to working with Lloyd’s, especially in reinsurance and high-risk insurance.

Reinsurance is insurance that is purchased by an insurance company directly or through a broker as a means of risk management.

Beale, for her part, said Lloyd’s insurance syndicates are interested in working in the Iranian market.

She said it is necessary to tackle the existing problems in Iran’s engagement with the world banking system before insurance companies could cooperate.

During the meeting, Hemmati called on Beale to appoint a workgroup to investigate situations in Iran for a new start to cooperation, when his British counterpart said two of her colleagues will travel to Iran to sit down for talks with the Iranian Central Insurance officials.

This was the first in 12 years meeting between Iran’s Central Insurance and the Lloyd’s.
