Trend:

The capacity of Iran's ports has increased from 170 million tons in 2013 to 250 million tons in the current Iranian year (started March 20,2020), Deputy Minister of Road and Urban Development Mohammad Rastad said, Trend reports via Fars News Agency.

"It is expected that the capacity of ports would grow to 280 million tons by the end of the ruling of the current government (June 2021)," said Rastad.

"Despite sanctions Iran's port activities and commodity imports and exports did not interrupt. The ports have also been working in compliance with the health protocols," he said.

"Considering the equipment and the country's commercial infrastructures at ports, the cargo releases from storehouses were done smoothly," said Rastad.

"There are special terminals that handle loading/unloading of ships with heavy or light commodities," he pointed out.

"There are no problems with unloading or loading necessary commodities, containers and bulk goods," said the official.

Rastad also noted that the private sector's investment in Iran's ports currently stands at about $3 billion.
