BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 7. The electricity production of Iran's Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in Bushehr Province, located in the south of Iran, totaled 2.7 billion kilowatts (2,744,000,000) hours during the six months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through September 21, 2024).

Data obtained by Trend from the Iranian Atomic Energy Power Production and Development Company indicates that about 2.5 billion kilowatt-hours (2,486,000,000) of electricity produced at the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant were supplied to Iran's national electricity grid over the six months.

In total, the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant has generated a total of around 68.4 billion kilowatt-hours (68,353,000,000) of electricity from 2011 through September 21, 2024.

Of this total, approximately 62.2 billion kilowatt hours (62,247,000,000) have been delivered to the national grid.

As a result of electricity production at the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant from 2011 through March 21, 2024, about 73.7 million tons of pollutants were prevented from being released into the environment.

Additionally, around 18.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 109 million barrels of crude oil were conserved.

To note, the only operating NPP in Iran is Bushehr NPP Unit 1. The first power unit of Bushehr NPP started operating in 2011. The operation of the unit was transferred to an Iranian company in 2013 by the Russian Atomic Company. This unit has been generating maximum electricity (1000 megawatt-hours) since 2013. In 10 years, electricity production at Bushehr NPP has amounted to more than 65 billion kilowatt-hours.

The construction of Bushehr NPP units 2 and 3 began in 2017 on an area of 50 ha. Once operational, each of these units can generate 1,057 megawatts of electricity. The commissioning of these two units will save 10 million barrels of crude oil or 1.6 bcm of gas per year and prevent the release of seven million tons of polluting gases into the environment.
