Georgia will not change its position over the border issue with Russia and the matter remains on the agenda, the Georgian President's spokesperson Manana Manjgaladze said at a regular briefing on Tuesday. She was commenting after another round of Georgian-Russian talks on Russia membership to the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

She stressed that the Georgian side will agree to Russia's WTO membership only after Russia agrees to place international observers in the Abkhaz and South Ossetian sections of the Russian-Georgian border.

"This is our fundamental demand. Let's wait for developments," Ms. Manjgaladze said.
Russia has been trying to join the World Trade Organisation (WTO) since 1993. In late April 2008, Georgia left the negotiations on Russia's accession protesting against its president's order to lift economic sanctions against Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Georgia and Russia broke off diplomatic relations after the August 2008 conflict, but in March this year the two countries resumed their talks concerning Russia's accession to the WTO.
