TBILISI, Georgia, August 17. Fuel prices remain low in Georgia, the President of the Union of Importers of Petroleum Products of Georgia, Amiran Iobashvili said, Trend reports.

On the European market, though, gas prices have been going up recently.

"When comparing pricing between Georgia and Europe, you can notice that they are significantly higher in Europe. Despite a slight increase in our costs, a shortage is the cause of the diverse growth. Along with Russia imposing export taxes, which in turn contributed to the price increase. Despite this, gas costs in Georgia continue to be cheap", he said.

According to the data of the National Statistics Service of Georgia (Sakstat) for July 2023, over the past year, the cost of gasoline in the country has decreased by 29.8 percent and diesel fuel by 37.6 percent.

Russia is the main supplier of motor fuel to Georgia. The largest volume of automotive fuel was imported from this country, accounting for 81.1 percent of total imports in the period from January 1 through June 30. In addition, the list of the five main supplier countries also includes Romania, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, and Belarus.
