Yemeni army said Wednesday that scores of Shiite rebels have been killed in separate attacks in northern Yemen, the ruling People's Congress Party reported on its website.
According to an unidentified military source, the Yemeni army attacked Houthi rebels in several areas of Saada province and in the mountainous area of Harf Sufian, causing the rebels heavy losses in lives and equipment, Xinhua reported.
The source said the army destroyed one of the rebels' strongholds in the area of al-Maqqash in Saada, killing an unidentified number of them, wounding others and destroying three trucks.
According to local sources, four rebels were killed in clashes with the army in northern Saada, while 10 others were killed in separate clashes with citizens.
Meanwhile, the Yemeni army said more than 20 rebels were killed and wounded in an abortive attempt to restore control of some areas seized by the army.
