NATO said Saturday that during the previous day it had carried out 74 air raids over Libya, indicating that the Western military alliance had maintained the same rhythm of attacks from Thursday, the first day it took full control of operations, dpa reported.
Operation Unified Protector - seeking to protect civilians with targeted air raids on Libyan forces - was launched early on Thursday, taking over from an impromptu coalition coordinated by the United States, with France and Britain playing leading roles.
On April 1, NATO planes took off 174 times, and performed 74 "strike sorties," the alliance said in a statement.
Since Thursday, a total of 363 sorties and 148 strike sorties have been conducted," it added.
NATO explained that strike sorties "are intended to identify and engage appropriate targets, but do not necessarily deploy munitions each time."
