British Foreign Secretary William Hague on Tuesday praised NATO's efforts in Libya, but also noted that "there is more to be done" as he arrived at a meeting of European Union foreign ministers in Luxembourg, DPA reported.

"What we have to remember is that thousands of lives have been saved," Hague said when asked about fresh French criticism of NATO's mission in Libya. "A huge amount has been achieved, ... but clearly there is more to be done."

"We must maintain and intensify our efforts in NATO," he added.

Hague also reiterated international leaders' calls for Libyan leader Moamer Gaddafi to step down.

"To have any viable, peaceful future for Libya, Colonel Gaddafi needs to leave," he said.
