Syrian President Bashar al-Assad appeared Wednesday in a public square in the capital Damascus and addressed thousands of his supporters dpa reported
State television showed al-Assad saluting his followers, who gathered in the city's Ummayed Square, and telling them he would protect his country and people from "terrorists."
"Syrians will undoubtedly triumph over the (foreign) conspiracy," he said amid resounding cheers.
