Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Rahim Al-Keab on Sunday, while attending the opening ceremony of the 18th African Union (AU) Summit in Addis Ababa, called for creating a global fund for the recovery of weapons, Xinhua reported.

The Libyan PM said that the new government is committed to a peaceful transition. He said that the recovery of weapons in circulation, the Libyan border security with neighboring countries, the fight against illegal immigration, and drug trafficking represent the most immediate challenges for the reconstruction of Libya.

His government, he said, proposes to hold a regional conference of interior ministers on peace and security to coordinate and create mechanisms to fight against the threats as mentioned.

He called for returning of Libyan assets frozen by foreign countries. He also called on the African countries and the world to deny safe haven to officials of the former regime accused of being involved in the repression against the Libyan people.

The new Libyan government has promised to actively get involved in the functioning of the AU, he said.
