The Palestinian leadership does not believe in support of the West and the United States, particularly, in Palestine's recognition as a full-right member of the UN and hopes only for help of the international community and the decisions of the UN Security Council, said Knesset Member, Chairman of the Raamah-Taal Arab bloc Ibrahim Tsartsur.

"The Palestinians have long ago ceased to believe in the U.S. support in establishing an independent Palestinian state," Tsartsur told Trend by telephone.

The Head of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) Mahmoud Abbas will not give up his plans and will submit an application to the UN Security Council for membership Sept. 23, the Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) Yasser Abed Rabbo told Voice of Palestine radio on Thursday.

The U.S. authorities, who support Israel not in words like Palestine, but in fact, play a role of Israel's lawyer and are trying to implement its plans, said Tsartsur.

"U.S. officials tell about creation of two states, but in reality, they only support the interests of Tel Aviv," said Tsartsur. He said Washington, who had repeatedly condemned Israel's settlement activities on occupied Palestinian territory, did not take any serious actions to stop these acts of Tel Aviv.

Tsartsur also stated that the U.S. previously made several statements supporting the creation of a Palestinian state, but changed its position on this issue, to which the Israeli lobby in the U.S. contributed.

The aspirations of the PNA leadership for Palestine's recognition as a full-right member of the UN are based on the statement made earlier by the U.S. President Barack Obama that he would like to see the creation of a Palestinian state in September, as well as the statement of the Middle East Quartet on the scheduled completion of negotiations in September.

In addition, Obama also said that the borders of Israel and Palestine should be drawn along the lines of 1967. He said it is a principle to resume negotiations on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Tsartsur also said that Palestine's recognition as a UN member promotes peace talks. On this eve, Barack Obama and Mahmoud Abbas discussed in New York Palestinian aspiration to become a member of the UN.
The U.S. Administration told the Palestinians about its intention to use the veto in the UN Security Council against Palestinian's accession to the organization.

In turn, Palestinian officials have criticized the speech of U.S. President at the 66th session of the UN General Assembly. According to them, the American President had to put pressure on the Israeli government that it would accept the principles of the peace negotiations - cessation of settlement activity in occupied territories and recognition of the 1967 borders as the borders between the two countries.
