Ukraine's Foreign Ministry said Thursday that it welcomes efforts to resume dialogue between Israel and Palestine on the Middle East peace process Xinhua reported

"Ukraine welcomes resumption of negotiations between the Palestinian National Authority and Israel, which shows the attitude of the parties to move towards a compromise on sensitive issues of the Middle East peace process," ministry spokesman Oleksandr Dykusarov said at a news briefing.

Dykusarov said representatives from Israel and Palestine met in Jordan on Jan. 3, the first in more than a year to discuss how to resume the Middle East peace process.

Dykusarov noted that the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry appreciates the "considerable efforts" by Jordan and the Middle East Quartet -- the United States, the European Union, the United Nations and Russia -- to organize the meeting.

The spokesman added that Ukraine hopes for further boost to the negotiation process.
Talks between the Palestinians and Israel over a two-state solution have been on and off in the past several decades.

The last time that the two sides restarted direct peace negotiation was in September 2010.

However, the talks collapsed weeks after Israel refused to renew its freeze on settlement building in the West Bank.
