An Israeli armoured force fired two tank shells at a group of Palestinians in northern Gaza Tuesday, killing one and wounding two others, a Palestinian medical official said, DPA reported.
An Israeli military spokeswoman in Tel Aviv said the force had identified an armed man approaching the heavily guarded border fence, had opened fire, and had confirmed hitting the target.
The latest death brings to 19 the number of Palestinians killed in the past three weeks, since the violence along the Israel-Gaza Strip border escalated.
Shortly after Tuesday's incident, Palestinian militants fired three mortar shells at Israel. The shells caused neither injuries nor damage.
