( AFP ) - Billionaire football club owner Roman Abramovich was ticked off by French officials on Tuesday over plans to build a mooring dock for yachts offshore from his luxury Riviera villa.
The local prefecture banned the Russian oligarch, owner of Chelsea football club in England, from building the pontoon near his property at Cap d'Antibes, ruling that it would endanger fishermen, divers and sailing boats.
The 12-metre (36-foot) dock was to have been built 20 metres (yards) into the water, linked to the shore by a walkway.
Officials had initially given Abramovich the go-ahead for the plans, but they were overuled by the maritime prefecture.
One of the most upmarket stretches of the Riviera, Cap d'Antibes has become a popular haunt of Russia's wealthy elite over the past decade.
