France's Foreign Ministry has apologized to China over a robbing incident involving a senior Chinese official in Paris, a press release from China's National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee said here Saturday, Xinhua reported.
The release came after reports of Monday's attempted robbing of Uyunqimg, Vice Chairperson of the NPC Standing Committee.
Robbers attacked the senior official's car and tried to take away her belongings as she was traveling to the Charles de Gaulle airport. No one in the car was hurt and no article was lost due to the quick response of accompanying security guards, said the release.
The release said China's embassy in France reported the case to the French police and lodged representations to France's Foreign Ministry immediately after the incident.
The French side has launched an investigation and vowed to severely punish the robbers. French National Assembly Speaker Bernard Accoyer has written to Uyunqimg to express his sympathy and solicitude, said the release.
