British Prime Minister David Cameron held talks in Paris with French President Nicolas Sarkozy about the conflict in Libya, as NATO foreign ministers were to discuss the crisis in Berlin on Thursday, dpa reported.

The two leaders were described late Wednesday as agreeing that pressure on the Libyan leader Moamer Gaddafi's regime should be increased.

Earlier Wednesday, a meeting was held in Qatar of the Libya Contact Group, consisting of about 40 countries and international organizations appointed to oversee the international military campaign to protect Libyan civilians.

NATO foreign ministers were gathering Thursday in Berlin for meetings expected to be dominated by the bloc's military action.

Britain and France have pushed for NATO to scale up its airstrikes and boost ground attack forces - in part to break the Gaddafi forces' siege of Misurata - echoing calls by Libya's transitional rebel council, more than three weeks after international airstrikes began.

Germany has led demands for a political rather than a military solution to the conflict.

Alongside NATO's 28 foreign ministers, the Berlin meeting is to be attended by the bloc's "partner countries in the Libyan mission from across Europe and the Arab world," NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said.
