A bomb set off in a busy vegetable market killed at least seven civilians and wounded 27 Tuesday evening in southern Afghanistan, a provincial official said, dpa reported.

Three children were among the dead in the bombing in Dihrawod district of Uruzgan province, said Amanullah Otaki, head of the provincial council.

The bomb was packed in motorbike and went off as people were busy buying vegetables in the bazaar, he said.

Some of the injured civilians have been reported to be in critical condition, he said.

Ahamd Milad Modasar, spokesman for the Uruzgan governor, confirmed the motorbike bombing in the Dihrawod district vegetable market.

"There has been causalities caused by the explosion but we have not received exact report of the deaths," he said.

Separately, in neighboring Kandahar province, a suspected insurgent threw a hand grenade into a school on Tuesday in Zherai district, killing a teenage student, provincial police chief Abdul Razaq said.
