The United Nations on Thursday released 1.5 billion dollars from the frozen assets of Libyan dictator Moamer Gaddafi, to be used for humanitarian aid in the strife-torn country, DPA reported.
The Security Council made the decision, which was urged by the United States.
The money is expected to support the financial position of the rebel leadership and help with reconstruction of Libya after months of violence, according to the decision.
