Lithuanian and Polish Presidents discuss the development of energy and infrastructure projects

( President.lt ) - President Valdas Adamkus received Polish President Lech Kaczyсski who arrived on a short working visit to Lithuania.

During a working lunch held in honor of Mr. Lech Kaczyсski, the two presidents discussed topical foreign policy issues, the further development of joint energy and infrastructure projects, and the construction of a new reactor at the nuclear power plant in Ignalina.

"It is important that this project be implemented as soon as possible since it will surely benefit the whole of the region," said Mr. Adamkus.

The Lithuanian and Polish presidents exchanged their opinions about the situation in Ukraine and possible further development of events.

Both of them expressed firm resolve to help deal, if necessary, with the current situation there.

Mr. Adamkus and Mr. Kaczyсski also discussed cooperation within the European Union and the EU-Russia energy dialogue.

They further touched on the issues relating to road and rail development in the Baltic region and in Eastern and Central Europe. The Lithuanian president voiced his support to building the Augustуw highway bypass - a project which was criticized by the European Commission.

President Kaczyсski shared his impressions about the recent visits made to Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, underlining the importance of cooperation with these countries in the energy sector.
