Kenya, Turkey abolish visa for diplomats

Kenya and Turkey on Saturday signed a visa abolition agreement for holders of diplomatic passports, Xinhua reported.
The agreement, together with another on health will initially serve holders of diplomatic passports.
The agreements were signed by Foreign Affairs and Transport Ministers of the two countries following fruitful bilateral talks led by Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki and visiting Turkish President Abdullah Gul.
During the talks, the framework for cooperation identified eight areas which include inter-government cooperation, trade and investment, health, peace and security and infrastructure development.
Others are energy, transport and communication, culture and education and media and communication. During the fruitful deliberation, a wide range of bilateral, regional and international issues of common interest and concern were discussed.
President Kibaki and visiting Turkish President Gul expressed satisfaction with the existing warm and fraternal relations between the two countries, reaffirming their commitment and determination to further the relations.
The two leaders also reiterated their governments' shared interest in resolving global problems through dialogue.
President Kibaki expressed his desire to enhance Kenya's cooperation with Turkey especially in infrastructure development, energy and refurbishment of hospitals and health centers.
The three-day visit by the Turkish President to Kenya is the first since the Turkey-Africa Summit of August 2008 during which a framework for development cooperation between turkey and Africa was adopted.
Turkey is already involved in various development projects in Kenya including slum upgrading in Mombasa under the UN Habitat- TIKA program and provision of higher education scholarships for Kenyan students.
