Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has underscored the need for diplomacy over Iran's nuclear program in a formal letter to 26 heads of state, PRESS TV reported.

The letter encloses details of the May 17 Tehran Nuclear Declaration and stresses Ankara's rejection of nuclear weapons and the need for a nuke-free Middle East, IRNA reported Saturday.

Non-permanent UN Security Council members Turkey and Brazil were partners in the trilateral talks ahead of the joint declaration in which Iran announced readiness to swap its low-enriched uranium for nuclear fuel on Turkish soil.

Erdogan sent the dispatch to the other member states of the UNSC, including the five veto-wielding permanent members that recently agreed on a US-drafted sanctions resolution against Iran.

Germany, the UAE, Japan and Lebanon were also on the list of recipient countries.

The move comes as the pro-diplomacy front intensifies its calls for negotiations with Iran without the threat of sanctions, in the face of stepped up efforts by Washington and its European allies to slap a fourth round of sanctions on Tehran.

On Friday, the Turkish premier sent a separate letter to US President Barack Obama, urging him to embrace the important opportunity provided by the declaration.

Iran is due to submit the declaration to IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano on Monday.
